Australia Weather Bureau Caught Tampering With Climate Numbers

Essentially, the "scientists" at the weather bureau set their recorders to automatically filter out any temperature that in their opinion was "too low" for the area in question. But they'd pulled this sort of stunt before, so watchdogs were keeping an eye out for a repeat performance and busted them in flagrante.

The leftists now think they can decide what the temperature is going to be and ignore the reality. That's insane -- literally. Insanity is defined as a disconnection from reality.

Deadly London Tower Fire Fueled By ‘Green Energy’ Rules:

London’s Grenfell Tower disaster was made worse by government “green energy requirements” that allowed fire to rapidly engulf the building Wednesday, leaving at least 17 people dead and scores more wounded or missing.

Building regulations required the exterior to be covered in a highly flammable insulating material in order to meet government environmental (read: Climate Change™) mandates. Once it caught fire, it went up like a tiki hut. Architects, building officials and fire protection professionals had been warning about this danger for years, but were shouted down by enviro-nazis and bureaucrats. The result is a lot of dead people.

Not that environmentalists care about dead people; to them, that's a positive outcome.

A global warming research study in Canada has been cancelled because of “unprecedented” thick summer ice.

Not to worry, the director of the "study" took the opportunity handed to him by The Almighty Gore to preach the Dogma of Climate Change™ to the seething masses of unbelievers, (that'd be you and me):

“It was clear it was from the Arctic, I just needed to be among the ice to see it,” said Dr. Barber. “What was also clear to me was that climate change has caused this event to happen.”

Well of course it was! Never mind that last year you were squawking about how the rapidly melting icepack was stranding polar bears and it was all due to Climate Change™. I think maybe the constant and rapid changes of direction are giving the Believers mental whiplash.

Exposed: How world leaders were duped into investing billions over manipulated global warming data

They weren't actually duped, of course. It's exactly what they wanted to do, because global warming climate change is about money and power, not the ecology. It's just another means of controlling the populace.

As apathetic as it sounds, (hey, check the name up top), I don't really blame the politicians for doing what they're doing vis-a-vis "climate change." They're simply doing what comes as naturally as breathing, which is scrambling for power and wealth. It'd be like blaming a hound dog for humping a bitch; they can't help themselves.

The ones I find intolerable are the dupes and useful idiots who let the politicos walk on their heads because they think anthropogenic global warming is a real thing. Those are despicably stupid people, made worse by their arrogant assumption that they're smarter than everyone around them by virtue of the fact that they've swallowed the hook.

The Color of Money

House leader fed up with Exxon climate probe

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, the chairman of the House Science Committee, sent a letter to the attorneys general in Massachusetts and New York, and a consortium of environmental advocacy groups, seeking documents tied to charges accusing Exxon of misleading the public and investors about climate change.

"If you continue to refuse to provide information responsive to the committee's requests on a voluntary basis, I will be left with no alternative but to utilize the tools delegated to the committee by the House of Representatives," his letter read. "Specifically, the committee will consider use of compulsory process to obtain responsive documents in the possession, custody, or control of your office."

Smith in his letter suggested the probe into Exxon may be skewed in favor of a particular agenda and said the extent of the examination so far was "overbroad."

That's lawyer-speak for "You're full of shit."

The New York Attorney General's office issued a subpoena to Exxon last year following a series of reports claiming the company was misleading investors decades ago about the potential impact its sector had on the environment.

This year, New York City pension fund managers said they'd move away from coal and the philanthropic arm of the Rockefeller family, which amassed its fortune from oil, said the "morally reprehensible conduct" of Exxon Mobil was in part behind a decision to divest from fossil fuels.

In other words, your public sector pension funds are upside down due to your half-cocked, sanctimoniously-derived poor investment decisions. In an attempt to recover the lost funds without looking like the bunch of incompetent mouthbreathers you actually are, you're trying to sue the people you divested from.

The House committee has called your bluff. Come clean or go fuck yourselves. Or better, do both.

Cooking the Books

NOAA Relies On ‘Compromised’ Thermometers That Inflate US Warming Trend

“The majority of weather stations used by NOAA to detect climate change temperature signal have been compromised by encroachment of artificial surfaces like concrete, asphalt, and heat sources like air conditioner exhausts,” Anthony Watts, a seasoned meteorologist and lead author of the study, said in a statement Thursday.

These “compromised” weather stations run hotter than stations that are well-sited, and are used by NOAA as a benchmark to make upward adjustments for other weather stations that are part of the agency’s official temperature record.

Watts and his fellow researchers found only 410 “unperturbed” weather stations out of the 1,218 stations used by NOAA to determine U.S. climate trends. These “unperturbed” stations don’t need to be adjusted by NOAA because they had not been moved, had any equipment changes, or change in the time temperatures were observed.

Put more simply, they adjusted data from sites which had seen no infrastructure change to match the trend in sites which had seen significant infrastructure change, (i.e., urbanization), when elementary statistical analysis procedures say that it should have been done in exactly the opposite manner. There are two possible reasons for this behavior:

1) Hundreds of people at NOAA with decades of experience, scientific knowledge and specialized degrees don't understand the most basic principle of statistical analysis, or;

2) They have a political agenda which is closely related to their federal funding.

Apply Occam's Razor and see which of those possibilities remains.

Arctic air temps highest since 1900, global report says

Meanwhile, the Antarctic is colder and the icepack is expanding faster than at any point in recorded history. Funny how the article neglects to mention that tiny little fact.

"Warming is happening more than twice as fast in the Arctic than anywhere else in the world. We know this is due to climate change..."

Do we indeed? What's your evidence of that? If it's globalized climate change, why is the Antarctic getting colder? Who is "we," anyway...

The report includes 70 authors from 10 countries, and is guided by an editorial team from the Office of Naval Research, the US Army Corps of Engineers' Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, and NOAA.

"...is guided by an editorial team..." Because that's what every scientific research project needs, an editorial committee. That tells me everything I need to know about the validity of the report: It has none.

Remember that whole "the polar ice is gonna melt and flood everything" doom-n-gloom? Well, it seems the apocalypse is being quite the spoiled child, as it isn't keeping to the agreed-upon enviro-nazi schedule:

A new NASA study found that Antarctica has been adding more ice than it's been losing, challenging other research, including that of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, that concludes that Earth’s southern continent is losing land ice overall.

In a paper published in the Journal of Glaciology on Friday, researchers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland in College Park, and the engineering firm Sigma Space Corporation offer a new analysis of satellite data that show a net gain of 112 billion tons of ice a year from 1992 to 2001 in the Antarctic ice sheet.

That gain slowed to 82 billion tons of ice per year between 2003 and 2008.

Climate scientists caution that these findings don’t mean it’s time to start celebrating the end of global warming. More than anything, the paper shows how difficult it is to measure ice height in Antarctica and that better tools are needed.

See how that works? When skeptics point out that the data upon which "climate change" believers are basing their hypothesis has huge margins of error due to inadequacies in the measuring equipment, we're called "deniers." But when they come across data which obstinately refuses to be hammered into their narrative, suddenly it's a problem with the equipment. Riiiight...

Be ye not concerned, however. They've found a way that all of this ice will yet cause the predicted DOOM:

Like dropping an ice cube in a glass of water. Ten feet globally, no less! Because that's exactly how it works on a planetary scale, you know. Bill Nye the Science Moron says so. Never mind that the bulk of the aforementioned expanding ice sheet is already in the water. But their hypothesis, if you want to dignify it as such, is that when the ever-growing ice sheet [Does Something™], it will result in a massive chain reaction, causing all of the ice on half of a continent to suddenly slide off into the water and turn us all into Bob...

Because that's perfectly rational, you see.

On the other hand, every time global warming believers have gone into an actual courtroom, they've come out with egg on their pasty-white faces. Drought It

Kevin Williamson writes in National Review about the lefty outrage over the California drought -- which they reflexively and ignorantly blame on global warming climate change, of course:

The actual challenges presented by the threat of global warming look a lot more like California’s current situation than Waterworld or The Day After Tomorrow. As a matter of political rhetoric, it is attractive to frame the choice as a matter of affiliation: Cast your lot with the truth-speaking scientists on one side or the oil-addicted pre-Enlightenment goobers on the other. The actual choice is between making a naïve attempt to reorganize the world’s economy — an attempt that certainly will fail — and embarking on a series of discrete, manageable adaptations, such as improving the water-management facilities of millions of people who live, let’s remember, in a desert. The Left’s potted moral outrage notwithstanding, that isn’t a brief for denial, but a brief for adaptation. And if the Left really believed half as much in global warming as its rhetoric suggests, its leaders would be moving forward with a robust program for adaptation — especially in California, a large and prosperous jurisdiction that is under nearly complete progressive political control.

"Climate change," of course, has nothing at all to do with climate science, it's about control. It is a reflection of the fact that millions of dupes are more than willing to give up their economic and personal freedoms to authority in exchange for token amounts of ego validation -- a fact which the powers-that-be in the Democrat party recognized many years ago.

It's really quite a straightforward three-step process for psychological control of large groups of people:

1) Tell that portion of the population which is of middling intelligence that following your lead makes them smart and well-informed. Deep down, most of them know this to be untrue, but they desperately want to believe it. This is the result of a fundamental character flaw, often stemming from a nascent inferiority complex, and it makes them ideal for your needs.

2) Being that they're none too bright, it's a relatively simple matter to concoct some complicated pseudo-intellectual horse manure, write it down in a complex alternate language of which these dupes have no functional understanding -- mathematics, for example -- then watch as they proceed to tell everyone around them about this great new Truth of which they have been Enlightened.

3) Shout down any objections to your viewpoint as the backward babbling of the ignorant, ridicule the opposition as benighted and deceived, all while stroking the fur of your trained minions, and you can get away with murder. Literally, in some cases.

Now substitute "Latin" for "mathematics" in the above process and read it again. It's a functional description of another massive psychological manipulation in human history: the medieval Catholic Church. In fact, with only very minor alterations, that process can explain any number of examples of mass hysteria throughout history, from the Mormons to the UFO movement. Easily manipulated people are all the same; only the goals of those doing the manipulating ever change.

Iceland is on the rise. The actual island, not their shitty economy:

Sea levels aren’t the only things rising due to climate change — swaths of land are too, including the nation of Iceland.

That’s according to a new study published by a team of geologists from the University of Arizona. According to their research, the melting of Iceland’s glaciers has reduced pressure on the ground beneath them, causing the land to “rebound” from the Earth’s crust.

“You can’t make any statistics from those few data points of course, but you do notice there might be a connection with the uplift,” Hreinsdottir said.

Which didn't stop the true believers of the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming Climate Change from making an illogical quantum leap based upon exactly those few data points. Never mind that the glaciers in Antarctica are increasing in size even faster than the ones in the Arctic are melting; that doesn't fit The Narrative. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the cycles of that giant fusion reactor at the center of the solar system, of course. Or maybe undiscovered mechanisms of vulcanism deep in the mantle. Perhaps tectonic processes which we've only barely begun to comprehend...

Nope. Can't be any of that stuff. It's Big Oil causing it, and that's settled science because High Priest Albert the Hutt has decreed it to be so! Burn the heretics! Crucify the apostate!

The year 2014 – after shattering temperature records that had stood for hundreds of years across virtually all of Europe, and roasting parts of South America, China and the Russian far east – was the hottest on record, with global temperatures 1.24F (0.69C) higher than the 20th century average, US government scientists said on Friday.

A day after international researchers warned human activities had pushed the planet to the brink, new evidence of climate change arrived. The world was the hottest it has been since systematic records began in 1880, especially on the oceans, which the agency confirmed were the driver of 2014’s temperature rise.

Hold on a minute! When all of us "global warming deniers" (i.e., people who understand the scientific method) pointed out that we had the coldest winter in recorded history a couple years ago, we were told that "you can't cherry pick data out of long term trends" and "that's just weather, not climate." What about all that huff? Oh, right; it doesn't fit YOUR narrative, so it's meaningless.

Walruses are coming ashore in huge packs up in Alaska. Guess what's causing it. Oh, go on... guess:

About 3,000 species of wildlife around the world have seen their numbers plummet far worse than previously thought, according to a new study by one of the world's biggest environmental groups. The study Tuesday from the Swiss-based WWF largely blamed human threats to nature for a 52 percent decline in wildlife populations between 1970 and 2010.

A slightly larger than "normal" amount of ice melted at the north pole this summer, ergo bigger waves because the ice packs aren't breaking up the wave patterns as completely. So you know what that means, right? Yup, GLOBAL WARMING. Which means we're all gonna drown from rising sea levels: cities underwater, bridges washed away, the infrastructure crippled, cats sleeping with dogs. Never mind that the actual rise in sea level is... well, zero. Zip. Nada. Perhaps because the melting ice in the Arctic is being replaced by unprecedented ice formation in the Antarctic. Say, maybe it has something to do with the cycles of that giant fusion reactor at the center of the solar system?

Naaaaah! Has to be man-made global warming!

Trust Us, We're Scientists

The post immediately below this one and a recent article I read about the pathetic state of what passes for Science these days has inspired me to rant.  :)

The article is here and talks about what may be the "single biggest cases of scientific misconduct ever"...not counting AGW.

Back in the mid 1970's the the world renowned theoretical physicist Richard Feynman gave a commencement address at Caltech on "Cargo Cult Science" and the importance of scientific integrity.  If you don't know who Feynman is, and you have more than a passing interest in science and knowledge you should.  He is a personal source of inspiration and someone I've always admired greatly, in addition to being a bonafide genius he had a back for making the complexities of hard and theoretical sciences accessible to the general public.  Much like Carl Sagan did when he wrote the original COSMOS.  You could argue that Feynman was his generation's Sagan.

His speech can be found here and I STRONGLY recommend checking it out, along with some of his books.

That speech, and its warning, goes directly to the issue we have in Science today as exemplified by the the sort of sloppy scientific work, scandals and coverups we see (e.g. anthropogenic global warming, etc).  A sad additional element is the reduction of science in the popular culture to something akin to another form of religious faith.  Many people believe in the importance of science and scientific discovery, but poor education in the history of scientific discovery, the required rigor of the scientific method and scientific integrity, means they don't really understand how it works, why its important, and how to tell the good from the bad.  It becomes a blind faith that may not be questioned.  A fan club that all the "Cool Kids" belong to.

The elimination of questions, aggressive challenge and skeptical inquiry is the death of real science.  "The Science" is never "closed".  Over thousands of years the scientific understanding of the world has continuously evolved and changed as we learn and understand more.  The idea that the universe revolved around the Earth came from the 2nd century Greco-Egyptian scientist and mathematician Ptolemy and represented the accepted scientific understanding (the "scientific consensus" if you will) of the universe for 1500 years.  This popular scientific consensus was later adopted by Kings and the Medieval Church and it became a crime and a heresy to be a skeptic (or in modern terms a denier) of the Ptolemaic geocentric model.  Eventually the works of denier scientists like Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler came to replace the old scientific consensus with the new Heliocentric model.  But only after much ridicule, persecution and some death.  The sort of political and scientific bullying and persecution of those who challenge the orthodoxy around AGW is very akin in my mind to the sort of things we saw with things like Geocentrism vs Heliocentrism.

Actual climate data, undoctored by those "scientists" on the global warming gravy train, is in the books now and it's quite interesting...

Responding to widespread criticism that its temperature station readings were corrupted by poor siting issues and suspect adjustments, NOAA established a network of 114 pristinely sited temperature stations spread out fairly uniformly throughout the United States. Because the network, known as the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN), is so uniformly and pristinely situated, the temperature data require no adjustments to provide an accurate nationwide temperature record. USCRN began compiling temperature data in January 2005. Now, nearly a decade later, NOAA has finally made the USCRN temperature readings available.

According to the USCRN temperature readings, U.S. temperatures are not rising at all – at least not since the network became operational 10 years ago. Instead, the United States has cooled by approximately 0.4 degrees Celsius, which is more than half of the claimed global warming of the twentieth century.

[The] USCRN provides the promise of reliable nationwide temperature data for years to come. No longer will global warming alarmists be able to hide behind thinly veiled excuses to doctor the U.S. temperature record. Now, thanks to the USCRN, the data are what the data are.

Expect global warming alarmists, now and for the foreseeable future, to howl in desperation claiming the USCRN temperature data are irrelevant. Of course, to global warming alarmists, all real-world data are irrelevant.

Stop browbeating those poor Gaia loving activists with science and data, you meanie! They're True Believers and your filthy ol' data ain't gonna change that!
