A 'world's hottest chilli' competition at a curry restaurant left two people in hospital. Emergency services were called to Kismot Restaurant's curry-eating challenge, on St Leonards Place, Edinburgh, after competitors started writhing on the floor in agony, vomiting and fainting during the contest... [Half] of the 20 people who took part in the challenge had dropped out after witnessing the first 10 diners vomiting, collapsing, sweating and panting.

I find all eating contests bizarre and pointless, but eating something that's actually painful and detrimental to your health is stupid beyond reckoning. Whether induced by machismo or masochism, it's just plain dumb. If you want to contribute to a charitable cause, give them some money. If, however, you feel a need to draw public attention to yourself while doing so, you're neurotic and in desperate need of psychiatric treatment.
