Reinventing the Wheel

Researchers at UC Riverside are attempting to recreate the computer from the ground up. Not satisfied with simply building a better transistor, they are working on a logic gate based on magnetism rather than electricity. They believe it will bypass the limitations of transistor technology altogether.

The group received $1.85M of our tax funds for this project -- and for once I consider that to be money well-spent. It's a helluva lot more useful than paying some welfare queen to pop out another ghetto rat, at any rate.
