Augmented Reality
An interesting article from the Beeb about current progress in augmented reality--the overlaying of digital interactive data onto the real world.
While the game applications are an interesting place to start, (anyone who knows enough to build their own PC also knows what really drove the computer market up until about three years ago: gaming), I can see much more interesting possibilities for the technology. For example, shared overlays of coordination data presented on construction engineers' eyeglasses, or virtual map routing on the road via the car's windshield.
Of course, the dorky-looking helmets have to go away.
