Cel-Phones

The best, and worst, of us

When Paul Pelton saw the scene of a fatal car crash this week, he didn’t try to comfort the victims, who were both teenagers, and he didn’t help them, authorities say. Instead, according to police, Pelton started filming the scene on his cellphone.

“We searched to try to find anything to charge him with,” Lorain Police Detective Buddy Sivert told Reuters, noting that Pelton was charged for entering a crime scene, but not for filming what was unfolding there, nor for trying to peddle the footage to news organizations. “It is not a crime to stick a camera where a kid is dying or try to sell it.”

Others who were in the area tried to help get to the teens, but Pelton didn’t offer any assistance. “He went right in after the crash, before the rescuers or police arrived,” Sivert said.

The Cel-phone is probably one of the best inventions we have created since the automobile and the airplane. It is has also been one of the worst, since it has turned many of us in to narcissistic, attention whores. Not to mention that people no longer participate, they record. It has shown that memory retention in teens is down due to the phone (why remember, when you can just look it up) and at most concerts and other venues (Grand canyon, etc) People are viewing them through a six inch screen instead of actually looking at it. And don't even get me started on Selfies. So few people engage and participate in life anymore, because we are so distracted by the "Bread and Circuses" in our hand.
