What?

WHAT!?

A shopper perusing the merchandise at the Redwood Country Flea Market was so offended by a vendor selling Confederate and Nazi historical memorabilia, the person actually called 911.

But that is not the statement that made me pause. Some moron calling 911 because they were offended? That's normal for these times. It was this statement by the Mayor. The elected Mayor, who probably swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

“I had to check with the chief over what is actionable and what isn’t,” according to the mayor. “Unless something violates state or federal law, there’s no jurisdiction for government to do anything. We had to ask, is it something controlled by law?”

So, the person is so offended to the point they feel sick and want to vomit, so they call 911, waste municipal resources to have officers dispatched, and even calls the Mayor. Let's be honest here, the Mayor was calling not to see if it was something controlled by law, but to see if they (the local Government) could put a stop to it. Give it time though, I'm sure he or one of the city councilmembers will be pushing an ordinance any day now to ban the sell of this type of "Offensive" material.

There are plenty of offensive things in a flea market, but Nazi and Confederate memorabilia are not among them. The food is offensive, the vendors disgusting, the patronage repulsive. Perhaps this "offended" person should have been calling the county health department instead of the police. Better yet, the local news station, as he was obviously craving attention.

“It’s not a crime but I would call it hate. People look at the situation in Charleston and say it’s down in the South. But this stuff is here in Connecticut.”

Oh, yes... Connecticut, the bastion of All That Is Good And Right In The World. Far more enlightened than we ignorant Southerners. Why, we can barely spell sanctimonious self-fellating Yankee, let alone be one...
