Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

John le Carre is one of the grandmasters of Cold War spy thrillers. I am particularly fond of his books because there is very little gun play, stabby, building-jumping, etc. George Smiley, the protagonist of most of le Carre's books, is not James Bond; he's more super-nerd than super-hero, and the series is widely acknowledged as a much more "realistic" type of spy thriller than Ian Fleming's wild rides.

Anyway, le Carre's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy -- arguably the most famous of the Smiley novels -- is finally getting the silver screen treatment. I'm very leery of modern Hollywood (to put it mildly), but judging from the trailer they may have got it right. The fact that it stars Gary Oldman and John Hurt is a good sign, anyway. Fingers crossed.
