I don't know if any of you have heard of the Fair Tax plan being discussed in a book by Neal Boortz, and John Linder, but I think This article says it plainly that we need to change our Draconian tax plan that punishes hard work and success and rewards lazyness.
Here is the part that costs us, the average consumer the most;
For those of you not familiar with the Fair tax program, go Here. The fair tax calls for an abolishment of all payroll, corporate, gift, death, and any other kind of tax the federal government imposes and calls for a federal sales tax rate of 23%. This would cover the current budget spending. They argue that this would reveal to everyone how much they spend on taxes and would curtail Government spending. It also claims that more revenue would be created due to "underground" activities being taxed (ie: gamblers, drug dealers and illegal aliens all buy stuff and thus would pay taxes)
Our current tax system is "Death by a thousand cuts", in other words we have property tax, income tax, sales tax, fees, and then the hidden cost in products from corporations being "taxed". I will again say that Businesses do NOT PAY TAXES. They add the cost of taxes into the total cost of the product so we pay it. By this method no one knows how much of their money goes to taxes since alot of it is taken out even before they see a dime, thus they never miss it. ( personally, I don't know when it happened, but when did people become excited about getting back the interest free loan they gave to the government)
Is the Fair tax the right answer? I don't know, but I do know one thing, our current system does not work for anyone except politicians, and that is not a good thing.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tax season became a little more taxing this year, with the average person spending more than a day and more than $200 collecting, calculating and compiling those numbers for the tax man, according to a report based on Internal Revenue Service figures.
Here is the part that costs us, the average consumer the most;
The National Taxpayers Union, in its annual look at the burdens of taxpaying, said the corporate cost of compliance is about $170 billion. General Electric in 2006 filed returns equivalent to 24,000 printed pages.

The chance that our politicians would actually pass a law that would make our burden to the government clear while having to take responsibility for such burden rather than continuing to give lip service to helping the poor tax payer while passing and affirming the thousand hidden taxes that they can blame on corporations, states, counties, and anyone other than themselves is as likely as the democrats fixing their electoral system or taking an actual and clear stand on any subject or the republicans executing a clear and well thought out plan in Iraq. These people are sleazy and power hungry elitists, not stupid such that they would pass a law they could actually be held accountable for.
What he just said.
I'll drink to that.
The motion is carried. Let it show that politicians are indeed sleazy and power hungry.
And elitists. Can't forget that part.
Pass that bottle if you please, Fundy...
Here ya go Jarhead. Is it time for a run to the front gate for some Yakisoba yet?
