Clown Shoes

The full story about a proposed 1500% tax increase on beer in California (linked here) should be of interest to the many friends of John Barleycorn that inhabit this forum. But I mainly just wanted to share the the associated comment about the fellow proposing the tax.

I’ll be the first to say it: Jim Beall is the stupidest fucking Democrat in California. Which is a lot like being the circus clown with the biggest shoes.

Beall said the tax would generate $2 billion a year to fund health care services, crime prevention and programs to prevent underage drinking and addiction.
You mean like the tobbacco settlement money was used?

And lottery profits. And state gas taxes. And toll road proceeds.

It's a long list... In the end, all that money ends up in one place: the general fund. Where, after being chopped, cut, sliced, diced, re-cut and laundered, about 10% of the original sum goes to what may or may not be the original cause.

One guess where the other 90% ends up...
