Go Tell the Romans

While reading this article, I kept looking up at the header for "The Onion." Unfortunately, it's not there.

Abstract: Some prisoners in the UK were watching porno videos on their Playstation 2 video game consoles. The prison officials confiscated said game consoles to prevent the prisoners watching porn. Then they paid the prisoners for the game consoles. A victim's rights group is upset over the whole thing because: 1) they don't like the prisoners watching porn videos, and 2) they don't think they should be compensated.

A Member of Parliament had this to say about the incident:

"They have forfeited the right to free enjoyment and possession of PlayStations by using them in this way."

Please note: "...by using them in this way." No one seems at all concerned with the fact that convicted felons are being housed and fed by taxpayers so that they can play video games all day. As recently as thirty years ago, these same criminals would have been laboring on chain gangs to build public works projects. Or at the very least, they'd have been turning big rocks into small rocks.

Today, the prisoners live in air conditioned luxury, are fed nutritious meals, and play video games on consoles that they somehow had money to purchase in the first place. I don't even own a game console; I've not been able to fit it into my budget yet.

But what's everyone up in arms about? That prisoners are watching nekkid wimmin.

Modern Western civilization is done. Hosed. Finito. It's a just a matter of watching the paint fade, now...
