I Want My Seventies Back
Fundy has posted a link to an article in the Telegraph, which lays out some details about the North Koreans helping the Iranians build nuclear bunkers.
Oh happy day. Why don't we just blow up the planet now, and save ourselves the agonizing wait for the other shoe to drop.
I never thought I'd live to see a time when I actually waxed nostalgic for the Cold War era. Granted, it wasn't exactly a 40-year long ice cream social, but at least then we knew precisely who the enemy were, where they were, and generally what they were up to. Additionally, while powerful and certainly evil, as a rule the Soviets were not psychotic nutjobs, (always excepting Joseph Stalin, of course).
I find that, more often than not, I'm actually placing the time of the MAD detente in my personal historical category of "The Good Ol' Days." Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I suppose, but somehow ultra-communist hardliner wackos helping Islamic religio-fascists to build nuclear bunkers is not my idea of "good times." Interesting times, perhaps... in that psuedo-Chinese curse kind of way.
