Get the LED Out

An interesting read about the continuing evolution of light-emitting diodes as a primary lighting source. I've been meaning to replace the bulb on the front porch with one of these; since it's always left on, it burns out every month or two. Pain in the ass, actually.

I particularly like the idea of three differently colored diodes in a fixture, each attached to a separate slider switch, thus allowing you to "mix your own mood." The new Ford Mustang and the Toyota Scions use a similar system for their adjustable dash backlighting and courtesy lights. It would be very cool in the living room; you could go from sunlight to cathouse to stoner dive at the manipulation of a few sliders. (Uh... not that I've ever been inside any such illicit places, of course. Purely second-hand information.)
