Buggy Whips

A growing number of retailers are pushing hard in State courts and legislatures in an effort to finally slay one of the last of the old post-Prohibition blue law hangovers: alcohol wholesalers.

If you're not familiar with the landscape in this industry, the article will bring you up to speed nicely. In brief, however, alcohol wholesale distributors are the people who cause your bottle of wine or six-pack of beer to double in price. They are yet another government-spawned boondoggle, originally created to line the pockets of dishonest politicians, (oh, sorry; that was redundant). In any event, the distributors--and the laws that created them--are both archaic and economically detrimental. It's past time they went away.

Of course, the same could be said for any number of such laws. If the average American had any real idea how much of their hard-earned salary ends up lining the pockets of political shills and corporate fat-cats, there'd be a violent revolution in this country tomorrow morning.
