A Bad Idea Made Worse

Instead of driver education, we have this kind of nonsense. This is just lovely:

Lane Departure Prevention combines a camera and computerized devices that control braking for front and rear wheels that nudge the car in the right direction. No decision has been made on when the new system will be available.

The feature turns off when you hit the turn signal, so you will be able to change lanes or make turns without the system kicking in.

Uh... no thanks. What happens when I have to swerve suddenly to miss a road gator? Or the car next to me, driven by Joe Moron and not equipped with this fancy gadget, starts coming into my lane? The car resists my efforts to avoid a collision?! No. Thank. You.

I want absolutely nothing to do with any vehicle that takes control away from me, in any way, without my explicit permission. My RX-8 has DSC and traction control on it, but I only leave them on when it's raining. Otherwise, they get turned off. I don't like cars making split-second driving decisions for me, and I submit to you that anyone who does like it is probably not a very good driver.
