X-ray Laser
Research scientists recently demonstrated a short-duration x-ray burster in Vienna. It's the first major step on the way to creating a true x-ray laser, (actually, I guess it would most properly be called a "xaser," since the root word was originally an acronym).
In any event, it will allow for extremely precise medical scanning, permitting very early diagnosis of... yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, whatever. I just want my cool giant X-ray laser turret to destroy the invading alien overlords' armada.
Medical, schmedical. Give me something I can use to blow shit up, and I'm more than happy to fund it. Dr. Strangelove to the ER, stat.

Finally! We've been promised Flying Cars and Death Rays since the 1950s...its about time the scientists started living up to their promises! :)
XASERS...how would you pronounce that one anyway? Like Zasers? Exasers? Screw-it...I'm calling it a Death Ray.
