That Was Easy!

You'll recall that last week some jackoff broke the clutch lever on my ride. While it was a pain (literally) riding home, I discovered something in the course of the necessary repairs: Honda has designed their their hydraulic levers (clutch and brake) in such a way that replacement is easy-peasy Japan-esy.

Three minutes with a 10mm wrench and a screwdriver saw the deed accomplished. One bolt and done. Kind of disappointing, as I had mentally allotted half my Saturday, a six-pack, and a jarhead-sized quota of cussin' to dealing with all the fidgety bits associated with traditional clutch lever mechanisms. 'Twas not to be.

I spend my fair share of time (more, probably) bitching about the foibles of mechanical engineers. Especially Honda's, as they seem to take a perverse delight in going the long way 'round to any design goal. But in this case I say "Well done!" I ♥ Hydraulic Clutches.

Now, about that $42 price tag for a piece of machined aluminum with a brass bushing stuck in it...
