The Chicago Way

The treatment will kill the patient:

Chicago officials finally announced what was widely rumored: They will close 54 under-enrolled schools this year in the country’s third largest district to help close a $1 billion budget deficit. It is the largest mass district closing of schools ever in the United States, and it is fiercely opposed by many teachers, parents and education activists.

The majority of schools affected are in African-American and Hispanic neighborhoods, where, Chicago schools officials said, school enrollment has declined in recent years. Over the last 10 years, district enrollment has dropped 20 percent.

The Problem: the welfare queens in the ghettos aren't sending their kids to school.

The Proposed "Solution": close down the schools -- but leave them all on welfare.

That's The Chicago Way.
