Kodachrome on the home front
Ran across a collection of very high quality Large Format (4x5) Kodachrome pictures that have been posted on the web. The sharpness and quality of the photos are amazing. When you're used to seeing all photos of that period as B&W or grainy color images, its a bit startling to see these photos. Those lower quality photos made that time seem almost like a different world, the world itself had a different texture to it. These photos look more contemporary in their quality and texture, which seems at odds with their content.

Side note: looking at the people working in the war factories and the almost complete lack of basic safety equipment. I saw only one pair of safety glasses, and only a few of the workers were wearing gloves. Working without gloves around sheet metal is an injury waiting to happen. Very different world.
