Inventing Reality

Hanging by a green thread:

The American Wind Energy Association warns that the wind industry risks losing 75,000 jobs overnight, if the Congress fails to extend the production tax credit at the end of this year. These jobs would vaporize due to the loss of a single subsidy, despite the fact that more than 30 states have mandates that guarantee demand for wind power.

Anyone care to explain to me how the government -- or anyone -- can "guarantee demand" for any resource or product? I'd love to hear it. Or is it perhaps that they're propping up a non-viable industry with our tax money and shoveling the non-profitable product into an established demand channel for energy?

As the article points out, growth in the oil exploration industry is skyrocketing, in spite of Dumbo's best efforts to kill it. That's the result of real demand versus manufactured demand.

Here's a demand for you political types: stop spending my tax money on 'green job' confidence games and pyramid schemes. Better yet, just stop spending.

Be nice if we could get the Alberta pipeline approved instead of playing politics and letting the Canadians sell oil to the Chinese instead.
