4004 Forty

Intel has announced that today marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the Intel 4004 chip, the first commercial microprocessor. Never shy about singing their own praises, they add this:

“The sheer number of advances in the next 40 years will equal or surpass all of the innovative activity that has taken place over the last 10,000 years of human history,” said Justin Rattner, Intel chief technology officer.

Wow. That's a pretty big bite, Justin. You might wanna chew that a while lest you choke on it. Agriculture, metallurgy, sanitation, concrete, gunpowder, vaccines, electricity, airplanes, spaceships... I'm just sayin'.

Oddly enough, the Forty oz. is only 30 years old. Pour out one for your old Intel Homies.
