An excellent article by VDH. It underscores a point blatantly obvious to most conservatives but completely overlooked by the Left: that liberal Democrats rarely (if ever) think through the logical consequences of their political platforms.
Liberals tend stake out their positions based upon emotionalism, then fool themselves into believing they're being logical and ethical. Pointing out the flaws in their arguments usually causes them to entrench further, much like children whose parents have just seen right through some scheme the children thought cleverly opaque to everyone but themselves.
It's been the biggest weakness of leftist principles since Marx refused to acknowledge the glaring flaw in his theory: Communism (and it's little brother, socialism) requires either totally unlimited resources or perfect altruism on the part of leadership. Obviously neither of those options is practical -- hence the tail-chasing which is endemic to liberal policy-making.
I don't expect that to change, but it would be nice if at least a small percentage of liberals felt the light bulb go on over their heads as a result of this little oil crisis. It can be a fluorescent light bulb if they wish, as long as it comes on.
