Corruption

For those among you still laboring under any misapprehension that the American representative governmental system is a functional, going concern, here is proof-positive of just how wrong you are.

It's Socrates' audience of dunces and weaklings demonstrating his condemnation of democracy as "rule by the unfit." It is often said that our system, while imperfect, is still the best in the world. After years of contemplation, I'm still uncertain whether that is a pronouncement of hope or a sentence of doom. But as I age, I lean ever nearer to the latter.

Bartender, more ale! I've sorrows that look to be catching their breath.
