One Down...

A cure for cervical cancer has been created. Great news, yes? But wait! Somebody's already bitchin':

Researchers believe a vaccine could work best if given before adolescence, but critics fear this could encourage under-age sex.

I'm almost physically stunned by the overwhelming ignorance and stupidity inherent in that "criticism." It's barely a half-step away from the "faith healing" beliefs of the Christian Scientists and other right-wing religious loonies. People who would rather let their child die than acquiesce to modern medical treatment are contemptible, (and feloniously criminal, in my opinion).

Anyone who would forbid their daughter a potentially life-saving vaccination on the grounds of a specious link to early sexuality is beneath my contempt.

Do parents these days really think that a vast number of our darlins aren't having underage sex? And do they actually think they can stop teens from having sex?

A cancer preventing vaccine will not even register on an adolescent's mind when it comes to sex. Hell, the emotional and hormonal tumult teens go through barely makes them functional, productive humans sometimes! *grins* Add sexual stimulus to that mix and there is not a female teen in the world that will think for a fleeting moment that she may as well enjoy herself, after all she had the cervical cancer vaccine!

Is there a vaccine for uttering verbal nonsense? A vaccine for stupidity?

Holy cow, when you mentioned the Christian faith healers I thought of the many people going down to Mexico to be cured with herbal enemas and tea. Hey at least when they cut the cheese, it will have hint of potpourri. Another good post.

They not only want to give it to the girls, they want the boys to get the vaccine as well because this type of cancer is a virus brought on by sex (as you have mentioned.) Can you imagine telling these same people that you not only want to give it to their daughters but to their sons as well?
