Politische Ausbeutung

Germany's Schroeder government dives to a new low, exploiting American dead for its own political gain.

The Mad Builder of Periwinkle, who submitted the article, asks:
Someone remind me why we're still pumping money into Germany's Socialist Welfare State economy by way of US military bases, personnel, their families...not to mention providing for their military defense? Especially when you have countries that love us almost to the point of worship like Poland, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia, Romania, etc that would welcome our bases and people to move there?

I think it may have something to do with the aphorism which advises: "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Every time we leave the Germans unsupervised, not twenty years elapses before they're off on some conquistadorial adventure, striving with all their dark little hearts to kill every living thing within a thousand mile radius.

Damned Huns. It's in their blood, you know. Justinian should've wiped them out fifteen hundred years ago when he had the chance. But nooooo... He had to go antagonize the Persians, who were quite contentedly doing quiet Persian things in their own little corner, not bothering Byzantium in the least. That provoked fifty years of war, during which the Byzantines had to resort to using (ta-da!) Huns as barely-controlled mercenary dogs. Meanwhile, the remaining Huns were turning Eastern and Central Europe into their own little murderous playground, and starting to form a cultural identity--for which Europe has been paying the price ever since, in the form of congenital German militarism.

Leave it to a self-styled Christian "emperor" to go screwing things up...

Uh... What was I talking about?

/wandering back into the mental room

Oh, yes! American forces in Germany. Well, I'd rather we leave at least a few there. That way we can shoot anybody who does a Dr. Strangelove on us before they become a real problem. The rest we can move to Czech and the like. Lovely area, the Bohemian forest. I highly recommend the town of Cesky Krumlov if you're ever in those parts. There's an ancient (700 year old) brewery in the town, which gives free beer to tourists. Lovely little town. Such hospitable people, the Czechs.

Nice post. Accurate too. Man's inhumanity to man will forever be part of the culture.
