Hands off Governor
While it's definitely a money-related thing, I still have to agree with the ESA in this article.
The following says it quite well, I believe:
"The ESA argues that this bill is an effort to substitute the government's judgment for parental supervision and turn retailers into surrogate parents. Lowenstein said that the industry’s products were being unreasonably and unfairly singled out. He contends that while there is no question that a few games have content that some audiences will find offensive, the same can be said for some content in TV, films, music, and books. Since the government does not regulate the sales of those entertainment industries, it should follow suit for the sale of video games. Ultimately, he concluded, parents, not government or industry, must be the gatekeepers of what comes in the home."

I agree; this is a prime example of the "nanny state" mentality.
The motivating difference is that video games, as opposed the other mediums you listed, are a relatively new cultural phenomenon. We are only now arriving at the point that most parents of young children grew up playing video games. Unfortunately, they did not grow up playing games like Grand Theft Atuo. In many of these parents' minds, it's "only" a video game--a child's toy. They fail to comprehend that the medium has matured into an adult entertainment industry as well.
The real solution lies in increased vigilance on the part of the ESRB, retailers, and--most importantly--the parents who purchase the games.
Anybody seen Team America? My point is, why the free pass for Hollywood. I’d argue puppets are about the same as video game charters. I’ve honestly never seen a video game come even close to that mad puppet sex in Team America. I did laughed my ass off, but their was a golden shower. They blew up most of France and burned Alex Baldwin alive. GTA even with the Hot Coffee thing is like watching Sesame Street compared to that movie. Look at all the new laws and “Controversy” for Video Games and on the other hand any kid can grab a copy of Team America and countless other “bad” movies from the stand at the check out counter. No joke, take a look at the movie selection at the check out counter of you local box store.
I really don’t want movies to go through what ESRB is dealing with, but this is obviously a bunch of losers that for some reason need to fight the corruption and save America. I guess there are to many scumbags like me who likes to blow shit up on my PS2. I suck and deserve to die!
For the record, any movie that burns Alex Baldwin alive and violently kills countless celebrities is a 5 star movie in my book.
One of the main wacko’s for this anti-gamming crusade is that loony attorney Jack Thompson. You might remember him from such wacko law suits as banning 2live crue from Florida. Or the law suite on Simms 2 for the availability of a mod that removes the censorship fields from all characters when they are nude.
A true scumbag lawyer. He’s ethier looking for a easy settlement cash or is truly a nut. I cant’ tell.

Instead of outlawing videos they should outlaw some parents from ever having children.
Yes, Mad angel, if we could only find a little drug that would stop procreation in some families all the school teachers in America would be happy and maybe then parents would stop wanting everyone else to raise their damn children.
