To Boldly Go...

American academia is well-known for insulation, arrogance, and general kookiness. Occasionally, however, one finds a shining example of just what a waste of money colleges have become.

For today's example, take a look at the portfolio of one Mz. Kathy Ferguson, a political science professor at the University of Hawaii. What does she teach, you may ask? Well, a lot of the usual drivel you'd expect of the loonie far Left: graduate courses in feminism and breathless semester-long rants against the Left's favorite bogeyman, the ever-elusive "military industrial complex." Pretty standard fare, right?

But wait! That's not all! There's one more, and I do believe that Mz. Ferguson takes the Lackbrain Loonie Lefty trophy with this one:

POLS 300, History of Political Philosophy: Political Theory in Star Trek

This course examines the grand narratives of western political thought through the vehicle of Star Trek.

I'm sorry, I'd like to comment further, but I can no longer see the screen through my tears of laughter. What an idiot.

(Thanks to James Taranto of WSJ for pointing this one out.)
