UseNet Under Fire
Some group of religious busy-bodies wants to ban UseNet. The whole thing.
Why, you may ask? Well, because there's pornograhpy on some of those groups, of course!
Oh, yes; I see now. Because you can't properly supervise your children, you want to ban UseNet--all 35,000+ newsgroups. Groups which are used by millions of people around the world, for everything from car repair advice to zoological taxonomy discussions. So it should all be shut down, just so junior won't see any boobies. Yes, that's a perfectly reasonable approach to the problem, isn't it?
I'd like to ban religious zealotry. But we can't all have what we want. Hopefully Cox Communications will tell these self-righteous yahoos where to stick their dictatorial neo-moralism.

Usenet, however, requires no personal registration with the group concerned, making hundreds of pornographic image collections available to the children of Internet subscribers.

I don't agree with the idea of banning Usenet or porn, but something you said is a bit off...

I think the people who come up with these plans aren't necessarily worried about their own children. They're worried about all the children whose parents don't supervise them or offer them moral guidance.
