Smoking Gun

An excellent article about the misappropriation of tobacco settlement funds by government officials, (try to conceal your surprise). Interestingly, this article demonstrates two things at once:

1) Government is inherently corrupt. It's simply a matter of degree. I'm quite sure no one is surprised that politicians misappropriated funding intended for other purposes; this is just a particularly glaring example of graft.

2) Local investigative reporters are probably the only true journalists we have left.

I've only one editorial comment to make concerning the actual subject matter of the article: the only people who benefitted from the egregious lawsuits against Big Tobacco were the greedy lawyers and their cohorts, the corrupt politicians.

Sometimes I wish I believed in Hell. It would be comforting to truly believe such people were eventually going to end up roasting in it.
