Knickers = Twisted

As in, that's what's happening with lefties, hippies, pacifists, and various other bed-wetting types in the world right now concerning the comments made by Marine Corps Lt. General Mattis. Here's the one that's really got 'em buzzing like little pink, de-stingered hornets:

"Actually it's quite fun to fight 'em, you know. It's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up front with you, I like brawling," said Mattis.

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said during a panel discussion. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

The only thing I'm shocked about is that anybody would actually be shocked that a Marine would say these things. Hey, it's what we're trained to think and do from Day One in receiving barracks, folks! It's the Marine Corps, not the bloody Peace Corps. A Marine Expeditionary Unit is like a gigantic Destructo-Bot(tm): you wind it up, point it in the general direction in which you desire a huge swath of destruction, and push the release button.

I'll state this as clearly as I possibly can: the Marine Corps is not a "peacekeeping force." We create the peace by making all the bad guys dead, and it produces enormous job satisfaction. General or Private, it makes no difference; the distinguishing factor that makes a good combat Marine is that he enjoys combat. Yes, it's scary. It's also exhilarating. If you don't enjoy killing your enemies, you're a piss-poor excuse for a Marine.

Remember, we have an all-volunteer force in the United States. We're not drafting anybody and packing them involuntarily off to a combat zone, current recruitment quota goals notwithstanding. The Marine Corps doesn't want conscripts, it doesn't want people who consider the moral and ethical ramifications of warfare, and it certainly doesn't want people who hesitate to pull the trigger when the enemy is in their sights. It wants people who like to fight. The history of the Corps is replete with the best fighters this country has ever produced, and being the best at your job means enjoying your job.

If this offends you, then don't join the Marine Corps. But don't think it's going to change, either. Just accept that there are people with whom you are going to disagree, and move along. That's called life.

If, on the other hand, you agree, and are a healthy male under the age of thirty, I urge you to go sign the papers. I'll tell you to give serious consideration to 03-series MOS's, of course-- but I'm biased.

That is all.

OOOORAAH! I do agree with the majority of your post however, he should have known better as a zero (Marine Corp Officer for all the civies) than to stated that in an open forum. With today’s coverage of the War on Terrorism by the mainstream media (except FOX of course) he should have know it would be taken out of context to show that we (US Military) are baby killers, their term and not Mine.

As stated WAR is what we train for and to prove that you have the balls to do your job when you get a chance to is the ultimate high. How often does the United States Marine Corps Grunt get to do his job? When that Grunt is unleashed to do what he is trained to do and accomplishes his mission you are damn right he is going to be proud. If anybody else reads this could you say the same?

And as originally stated by JT if you are under the age of 30 the 03 field is the field where the Marine Corps has built it's traditions from and it is where the rubber meets the road for the Marine Corp.
