That sucking sound...

Some moron paid almost two million dollars for the Porsche 928 used in the film Risky Business. There's one born every minute, as they say.

That generation of 928 was cold-hammered garbage, even by the abysmally low standards of '70s and '80s sports cars. When I was growing up in Pasadena, an adult son of our neighbors owned one and it was constantly in the shop. He made quite a bit of money as a lawyer and even he said it was too expensive to maintain. A quick perusal of AutoTrader shows that typical examples of that generation are selling for $20K to $30K. Paying $2M for a provenance that consists entirely of a pop culture movie is very risky business indeed. As the generations pass the movie will mean less and less, until eventually no one knows or cares about it. At that point, the car will be basically worthless. But the seller made out like a bandit. That's a scam worthy of Scientology; Tom Cruise must be proud.
