That "economic crisis" is called socialism. This is always the end result of socialism, though I admit that Venezuela made an impressively fast run from wealth to poverty. The process normally takes several decades.
By letting the U.N. help the regime, we are simply propping it up. Will kids die if we don't? Absolutely. So will a lot of adults. But that is the only thing that will create enough dissatisfaction to cause them to rise up and hang the tyrants. Thomas Jefferson once said that any nation is only three meals away from a revolution. By feeding the people who have been impoverished by the socialists, we are actually making their lives worse in the long run, assuring that they can never break out of the bare-subsistence existence which is the natural equilibrium point of socialist states.
But of course the U.N. wants poor socialist states; the more the better. Those are the ones that are easiest to manipulate. They're the U.N.'s bread-and-butter: "Look at the poor starving children! Give us a billion dollars and we'll take care of them... after skimming a few hundred million for our new yachts, of course."
After the Haiti shake-n-bake, the U.N. put Bill Clinton in charge of the relief operation -- whereupon he proceeded to siphon the lion's share of the money straight into his own pockets. The United Nations: Rummaging Around In Your Bank Account Since 1945!
