The Expanse

SYFY has put out a new series based off of the novels by two writers, who use the pen name James S.A. Corey, called "The Expanse" What I have seen so far is actually pretty good. A little new Battlestar (But good), with some Firefly mixed in, and a dash of Bladerunner. It has a gritty feel to it and the writing is holding up and is farely true to the novels. Give it a try and see what you think. They are only five episodes in, so they could still Fornicate all over it and turn it in to Buck Rogers, but I'll hold judgement on it for now.

Sweet! I'm just about to hit a "show hole" this weekend. Having run through all of the Walking Dead (twice, actually), Daredevil, and now finishing up the third season of Borgia, I'm getting short of original series that interest me. This looks as though it might do the trick.

I wonder if they can resist the temptation to start shoehorning in gay rights activism plot lines after it becomes a successful show. That seems to be a fetish (pardon the pun) in Hollyweird right now. Walking Dead, Black Flag, etc. I mean, I've no issue with gay characters. Don't honestly give a fuck. But when I'm happily rolling along, really getting into the show, enjoying the plot and character development, sipping on my third scotch of the evening and suddenly they slam on the brakes, spilling my drink in my lap while screaming "OH LOOK EVERYBODY, A GAY MAN! LET'S ALL WATCH AS HE SUCKS A DICK! YOU HAVE TO WATCH! HE'S GAY! WATCH, DAMN YOU, OR WE'LL NOT LET YOU SEE THE REST OF THE SHOW!"... Well, let's just say I become rather annoyed.
