Weekend Timewaster
When it first released a few years ago, I would most emphatically NOT have recommended Mechwarrior Online. It was a mess of a game: half-baked, missing features, poor visceral feel, clunky interface. Basically, if there's something that can be wrong with a game, this thing had it. Like many others, I wrote it off and hoped it would die a quick death so that a more competent developer could snag the license. So you can imagine my surprise when they actually fixed it.
Unlike many modern developers, Piranha Games listened to the players and made Herculean efforts to un-fuck their product. The result, over three years later, is a game that is much more in keeping with the history of the series and the lore of the Battletech universe. More importantly, it now actually feels like you're in control of a 40-ft tall war machine, which was not the case in the original release.
If you're a fan, (or if you just have a soft spot for giant stompy robots blowing the crap out of each other), you owe it to yourself to give it another try. It's free.
