Shaking Out

Now that the silly season of 2015 pre-primary clown dancing is over, we can start to evaluate the Republican field somewhat more objectively. Here's a recent poll from Gallup:

There are several interesting data points in this poll. The most obvious is that "un-electable" Ted Cruz is leading the pack. I anticipated such, which is why I've donated to his campaign on several occasions and will likely do so again.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Jeb! at a whopping -1 favorable rating. You're done, Jebbie. No one is interested in yet another Bush in the Oval Office. Pack your bags and go home. Don't even bother to endorse anyone, because nobody cares what you think.

Trump... Interesting. Highest name recognition, naturally, but the unfavorable number is even higher than I'd expected -- second to last, in fact. I'm unsure how tight the controls were on this poll, of course, but that's not a good indicator for The Hair. It's doubtful that Trump will remain a viable candidate after the first few primaries come in.

My original "dream ticket" for 2016 was Cruz/Rubio. I'm sticking with that, as I think Carson will continue to fall. He's too much an intellectual and it shows. You can only say so many kooky things before people begin to cross the street when they see you coming.

Huckabee? Oh, please. Fiorina is a greedy and incompetent witch. Christie is permanently damaged, I'm afraid.

I don't even know why Kasich is still there; probably so he can keep saying, "Well, in Ohio, we do things like this..." Hey, John; news flash, buddy. Ohio is an economic disaster zone and a union hellhole. We've no interest in being like Ohio, and quite frankly there's no guarantee that you can bring the state in a general election. So quit trying to sell us the Brady house dressed up as the White House.

I would almost like to see a Trump/ Sanders general election. It would be a true indication of where this country is heading. A Capitalist versus a Socialist. If Trump wins, well, he is loud, bombastic, and rude, but he does believe in Capitalism. If Bernie wins? Well, start practising your line standing comrade.
