Hamster Bedding

Shredded!

Police confirmed that an 85-year-old Austrian grandmother shredded over $1 million in savings while on her deathbed to prevent family members from inheriting the money. The woman reportedly destroyed the money while in a retirement home. Workers at the home discovered the chopped up bills.

The story said that the woman's heirs might be able to recover the money if "the origin of the money is assured," according to a bank official. That official said that the bank usually doesn't replace intentionally destroyed bills, but exceptions are made when the person who destroyed the money may not have been in his or her right mind.

An important point which the article fails to mention: the cash was in Euro notes. Sounds to me like she was just anticipating what the Euro will be worth in a few more years, after the EU flies apart at the seams.
