Omni
If you grew up in the late '70s and early '80s, you'll remember Omni magazine as the edgiest thing going, a sort of precursor to the alt.* forums of UseNet. Created by Penthouse magazine founder Bob Guccione, Omni was intended for an audience somewhere between Popular Science and Scientific American, with a healthy dash of Astounding Stories thrown into the pot. As a young teen, I spent many an hour devouring each issue. It was the second magazine to which I ever subscribed, (the first was Guns & Ammo). Unfortunately, by the 1990s the once great periodical was staggering from self-inflicted wounds, having become a supermarket rag full of environmentalist alarmism and UFO conspiracy theories. By 1995, everyone with an I.Q. above room temperature had stopped subscribing and it was no more.
The internet, however, has once again cast its necromantic spell of resurrection. Piclick to read full-color scans of every issue.
