I Spy With My Little Eye...
A police cruiser!
Seems the police object to have their whereabouts monitored by the public. Well, turnabout is fair play, boys.
Besides, people have been tracking the whereabouts of police cruisers for years. In the 1970s, that was the main reason that most people had a CB radio in their cars. As long as everybody has access to the technology, it doesn't bother me. It's when only one side -- namely the government -- has access to surveillance technology that things start going wobbly.

As a Law enforcement officer, I have no problem with this technology. The purpose of traffic enforcement is to get VOLUNTARY COMPLIANCE with the law. Some people seem to forget that. Through high visibility patrol and selective enforcement, the purpose is to get the rest of the people to slow down or obey traffic laws. Even when I sit out in the open, where everyone can see me, you know what happens? People still speed. Most of my spots where I run RADAR, are visible from the road, and you know what? I'm 15th in traffic arrests at a department of 500.
As to the officer safety issue, if a person is looking to do harm to an officer, they will find a way. Some location app is not going to make a big difference. Many officer deaths are from bogus calls placed to 911 and the person waiting in ambush. Remember, the perpetrator has the advantage. They chose the time and location. There is one notorious case where the person placed the call to police, then went and hid in the bushes beside his house with his rifle and shot the police as they pulled up.
The most dangerous thing an officer can do is stop a car. To the Officer, it s a speeding ticket, but to the criminal it's "They know about the drugs/murder/other crime I have just committed and I'm not going back to jail". Then there is the traffic. More officers are injured by passing cars than by the traffic violator.
No, some dumb app isn't going to make us targets, we already are.
