Beer, sans buzz

Jim Koch of the Boston Beer Company reveals his secret for never getting drunk at his frequent beerpalooza events: yeast.

You swallow one teaspoon of active dry yeast for every beer you plan to drink and then get drinkin'. Essentially, it acts as a pre-metabolizer in your stomach, breaking down a large portion of the alcohol before it gets into your bloodstream.

After three decades of consuming mass quantities, I have the opposite problem: I can put down a six pack and barely even glean a mild buzz. Hell, I'm now buying 10% ABV beers to counteract my sky-high alcohol tolerance. De-alcoholizing my beer is the last thing I want to do. I suppose this would be a useful trick if I were still catting around in bars and chasing skirts 'til the wee hours. Those days, however, are long over -- and good riddance to them.
