The New Math
Humorous editing mistakes aside, there's a very serious message here -- but not the one intended by the American Bankers Association. The message is that Wall Street and their bosom buddies inside the Beltway are so disconnected from reality that they believe the average American worker can set aside 60% of our paychecks, give away another 10% and live on the remainder. The reality, of course, is that nine out of ten people in the country are living paycheck-to-paycheck.
My wife and I each put aside 10% of our checks in investments; the rest goes to paying bills. We are fortunate compared to many. But these ASSHOLES who wrote up this snarky little infographic seem to think we can set aside two-thirds of our income. For reasons I can't quite articulate, that makes me so goddamned mad that I want to throw something.
