Musical War of the Worlds

Since it's Friday I can't rightly call this a "Thursday Tune".  But here it is nonetheless.

I picked up this double LP in around 1980 or 1981 (well ok...at that time...more accurate to say I talked my parents into buying it for me).  I really wasn't sure what I was getting at the time. But it had a cool picture of Martian war machines in turn of the century England, it said "War of the Worlds" on the cover and I was a big fan of HG Well's WotW, that was good enough for me.

It's an instrumental "musical version" of War of the Worlds with some narration from the original story mixed in.  Oh by the way, the narrator happens to be the incomparable Sir Richard Burton.  Its definitely got a vibe that tells you the music was produced in the late 70s, some track are much better than others, making the whole two albums musically a little uneven.  I could see some of them making a wonderful soundtrack though.  The narration, while only small bits here and there to hold the whole thing together, is flawlessly delivered.  Everytime I listen to this it makes me wish for someone to make a movie of WotW as it was originally written, taking place in turn of the century UK.

Anyways, enough nannering, give it a listen.
