Thursday Tunes
Most people these days associate the name Manfred Mann with his Earth Band's famous rendition of Springsteen's Blinded By The Light. And you know what? While I'm swinging by the topic, the line is "revved up like a deuce," as in a '32 Ford hot rod. It is MOST DEFINITELY NOT "wrapped up like a douche." The song is about street drag racing, not... well, whatever the hell you douche people were thinking it was about.
Ahem. Yes, well. Got that off my chest. Been there for thirty years. All done now.
Anyway, Manfred Mann is actually a rather diversely talented individual, ranging across a wide spectrum of musical composition and performance. This piece, named Bare Hugg, is an excellent example of that talent. Released by the Manfred Mann Band (an earlier and separate entity from the Earth Band), it's some really great mid-60s acid funk, that weird genre of music which resided somewhere between lounge jazz and television theme.
