Frozen Time

One of the things we all tend to do at the end of a year is look back on it to gauge our accomplishments, and by extension where we stand in life. As I get older and realize that my destiny as Grand High Padishah Poobah of the Known Universe was perhaps a bit less than fore-ordained, I find that photographs of family and friends become more important to me. I suspect it's the same for you. As such, allow me to present one of my favorite photos:

Those are my parents, Tom and Dixie, departing on their honeymoon on December 22nd, 1966. The crazy man in the back trying to steal the keys is my dad's father, who maintained until his dying day that it was not him, despite the obvious and irrefutable photographic evidence. It's one of those candid moments that nobody can stage, a moment of real life frozen in time. As such, I find it a treasure beyond price.

Now those of you who know me personally are probably looking at that picture and thinking to yourselves, "Those are some good-looking people, Jeff. So what the hell went wrong with YOU?" Weeeelll.... sometimes the genes don't pan out, ya know? But hey, I was wily enough talk this gorgeous woman into marrying me, so neeener!

If your 2013 was good, may your '14 be better. And if it sucked, well there's nowhere to go from here but up, right?

Happy New Year to all.

Cool pic. Great hats! I've been doing my best to try to revive the practice of wearing hats (baseball caps DO NOT count) but adoption thus far has been slow...to be precise..1 (my wife) convert in 5 years. But I remain undaunted.

Very much agree on the growing importance of photos. Was never much of a picture person before; neither taking or keeping. A lot of that changed ager the passing of both my parents, as I started going through all of their belongings which included lots of photos. I think it also has driven me start taking my own photos now, to capture those "moments of real life frozen in time".

There is a saying that "Any airplane landing that you can walk away from is a good landing". Thats what I'm using to put a positive spin on an otherwise crappy 2013.

2014 will have to be better. If not, I shall be letting the management know of my great displeasure and ire.

Happy New Year!

For a minute there, I thought that was Jar(egg)head, posing in one of those throw-back photo booths. But after reading the text (recommended before one goes off commenting something lame about a photo), I see that it is his Pop. Remarkable. I would also note that photos of my son, and now my grandson, look amazingly similar at the same ages. In fact, the only way I can tell the difference in baby pictures is that mine is in black and white. That aside, I often find myself reflecting on images of family, some long past, and wondering what life was like for them.
Being the Curmudgeon, I don't have a positive outlook for 2014. And my ire will be expressed in the ballot box.
