LSO in 4D
Experience Ravel's Bolero from multiple selectable camera perspectives within the orchestra simultaneously.
This is the first real implementation of a very cool technology that the television industry has been promising us for a very, very long time, but which has yet to appear. I remember first seeing something like this in the 1975 film Rollerball. It was used several times in the movie, most notably in the ranch home of Jonathon E (James Caan). I remember it being talked about as a reality when satellite television first hit mass market in the 80s. I remember it being bandied about again in the 90s when HD became a thing. I recall further talk of its implementation for racing and football when digital streaming became "a thing" in the last decade.
The bandwidth is there. The interface technology is there. And yet here we are with five hundred channels of crappy reality shows and misinforming docu-dramas, and still I cannot watch my ultra-violent, corporate sponsored sports (football, not rollerball) the way I want to watch it. But at least we can see the London Symphony Orchestra from multiple perspectives. Yippee.
