Lack of Perspective
People have been taking self portraits with cel-phones probably since they added cameras to them. Of course all the "cool" kids have a name for it, Selfies. Who cares, let them think they are the coolest people to ever inhabit the planet, and us old folks never did anything radical or cool in our life. However, this new thing shows that this generation is growing up with a total lack of historical perspective. But who can blame them? They are taught that us Westerners are nothing but pillagers and no better than the Raiding Norseman of the past. That our wars were fought for money and power and not to free people or protect our way of life. That its more important to meet your own needs and the future be damned as long as you are happy now. Can you expect anything less from them?

Rome was sacked repeatedly in the Fifth and Sixth centuries by various northern barbarian tribes. The common feature in all of these sacks is that the effete hedonists who had by then come to constitute the bulk of the Roman population weren't able (or according to some accounts, willing) to defend their city from marauders. On one occasion, they didn't even have enough sense to close the gates when they saw the hordes coming over the hill.
We're getting there. A couple more generations raised on social media and reality television should make us ripe pickings for the Muslim hordes.
