David Austin, 29, from Derby, was found dead in a hut by a railway worker a mile south of one of Scotland’s most remote stations.

Mr Austin is thought to have told family in November that he was heading to the Highlands to live out his dream of surviving in the wilderness.

Oh, dear. I believe we'll have to place a mark in the 'FAIL' column, sir.

As someone who has graduated from several survival schools (courtesy of Uncle Sam) and spent many a miserable day freezing/frying/soaking wet (sometimes all in the same day) in various uncivilized hellholes around the planet, I'd normally advise such a person to find a new dream. In this case, however... well, a bit late. Said a local resident, (one of only four people who live in the entire area):

"We heard he was well equipped and knew what he was doing."

Not as much as you'd think, no.
