Water water everywhere
Apparently you need a prescription to get a drink of water at UK Government run care centers. See our future boys.
Government run systems gets you Government trained staff. This leads to the "Not my job, not my department, did you file the proper paperwork" mantra. What has this wrought? A health system where people have to be reminded that a person needs food and drink, the results?
What course of action do these people or family have? Nothing. Its the Government, and they won't let you sue them or force them out of business for poor practices. Some scapegoat will be found and a director, or some other administrator will be fired while the same incompetent people will continue to provide care. Say what you will about our system and frivolous suits, but at least we can go to a better facility if the one we were at is crummy.
The reason our health system is so expensive is not lack of access ( no one is denied health care in this country), or mean drug companies, or all the other demagoguery, its that we created a third party payer system. Go to the doctor for a cold? Run all the tests you want doc, its only costing me 10 bucks. New drug on the market to fix eyebrow dandruff, sign me up, it only costs 10 bucks. The real costs has been transferred to some far off nether world where unicorns and fairies romp and play. When the costs of something does not come into play, people are going to invariably choose the more expensive route. I have said it a thousand times. If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it is "Free"
