Sequencing

A fun and simple little sequencer toy. If you're interested in this sort of thing, you might find a hobby in "tracking" -- the creation of purely data-based music files.

The resulting music, generically called "mods", (short for music module files), is kind of an underground computer/music geek secret of the internet. It was around a long time before iTunes and Napster. I can remember using a decoder to pull music files down from UseNet forums via a BerkeleyTerm interface, long before the Web existed, (wow; just dated myself there). It is, in fact, the original internet music format. And it's free. There are a lot of talented composers out there (of which I am not one, despite my best efforts) who write music exclusively in tracker format. Many of my favorite musical pieces are mod files. I will admit, however, it's something of an acquired taste. If you're not already familiar with mainstream electronic artists such as Larry Fast, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, et al, you may find it a bit too far afield.

In any case, you can get a player and all the music you can eat at The Mod Archive. If you're so inclined, they'll even point you in the direction of some good track creation software.

Wow...flashback. Most of the good players ran on DOS, thats how old this stuff is! I figured they had died out and vanished completely.

I do remember taking some Scream Tracker 3 files, converting them to .WAV and making Music CDs out of them. Leviathan was the composer of the music I think.
