Beauty Shot

This is probably the best fan-created Star Trek image I've ever seen. It's a high-def computer rendering, and the level of fine detail is incredible. I don't know who the artist is, but he's a genius with 3-D modeling software and light sourcing.

Piclick to download the full-sized (8MB) bitmap rendered in hi-def 16x9. It makes great wallpaper, and the large bitmap format its the only way you can truly appreciate its artistry. Be sure your computer brightness and gamma aren't cranked up, or it'll look washed out and ruin the subtle effect created by the light pooling. (I can't stand people who have their monitor set to glow like the landing light on a 747. Ugh! No appreciation for aesthetics. Of course, I also spend a lot of time in dimly-lit rooms... but perhaps I've said too much.)

Back on topic (sort of), I finally broke down and watched the new Star Trek movie when it hit Netflix. I don't know what the hell that was supposed to be, but it certainly wasn't Star Trek. It was, in fact, even worse than I thought it would be -- and I was expecting something really bad.

J.J. Abrams remains a fucking asshole. I want my two hours back.
