I'll buy that for 98¢
I'm trying to decide if this ‘paying kids for good math scores’ idea is monstrous or brilliant. It is private money, after all. In a way, it’s teaching them to be good capitalists – and anything that pisses off leftists is by definition a good thing. But paying the parents? Hrm... maybe not such a good idea.
The submitter makes a strong point against the plan: since it’s only deployed in a small number of schools, the jealousy factor could easily cause the whole bundle of kittens to come unraveled. Kids are humans, after all (though I have to grit my teeth when I admit it); they're quite capable of throwing the test just for spite.
Finally, there's the very strong potential for a Pandora's Box syndrome developing out of the whole idea. So, on the whole, I'm gonna have to go with monstrous.
