Are we really helping?

First US relief airlift heads to Myanmar
I ask this question because of this quote right here;

Though international assistance has started trickling in, the few foreign relief workers who have been allowed entry have been restricted to Yangon. Only a handful have succeeded in getting past checkpoints into the worst-affected areas.

The government is also insisting on handling the aid distribution through its feared military, which has ruled this isolated country since 1962.

"The government is very controlling," said U Patanyale. "Those who want to give directly to the victims get into trouble. They have to give to the government or do it secretly. They follow international aid trucks everywhere. They don't want others to take credit."

So essentially we are helping support a oppressive government by providing them the means to engender good will among its people for said oppressive government.What we should be doing is using this opportunity to support and rebels in the area by air dropping supplies in and dropping the supplies directly to the people, not giving another tool to the Junta to control its populace.

Just let them starve. That's the quickest route to revolution.

But you're right; we're not helping anyone except the tin-pot dictatorship. More's the pity, our leaders no longer have the balls to stand up to such petty regimes. They've bought into the leftist claptrap that all human life has inherent value.

Horsefeathers.
